การเข้าทำลายฝัก: หนอนจะเจาะที่ก้านฝักหรือโคนฝัก หากระบาดรุนแรงจะเจาะกินภายในแกนกลางฝักและเมล็ด

We would like to issue an alert for the potential outbreak of Asian corn borers during the hot weather with occasional thunderstorms, particularly in the flowering and ear-setting stages of all types of corn, including sweet corn, popcorn, and glutinous corn
Symptoms of infestation
- Flowering stage: The larvae bore into the rolled top of the corn plant, preventing the flower from fully blooming. As a result, there will be insufficient pollen for pollination, leading to reduced yield. The ears may be without kernels or have underdeveloped kernels.
- Ear damage: The larvae will bore into the ear stalk or base. In severe infestations, they may feed on the cob and kernels.
Control and prevention measures
- Apply insecticides such as chlorfluazuron 5% EC (25 milliliters per 20 liters of water) or fipronil 5% SC (20 milliliters per 20 liters of water).
- For silage corn in the flowering stage: Apply insecticides when 2 larvae per plant or 2 entry holes per plant are found.
- For sweet corn in the flowering stage: Apply insecticides when more than 50 larvae or 50 entry holes are found in 100 plants.
